Dr.David Blehert

David Blehert holds a BS in Biology from the University of Minnesota, Minneapolis, and a PhD in Bacteriology from the University of Wisconsin, Madison. Currently he has a position as a microbiologist at the U.S. Geological Survey - National Wildlife Health Center, Madison, Wisconsin. A recent important research project focusses on investigations of bat mortality in the northeastern U.S. caused by white-nose syndrome and the detection of a noval fungal organism, Geomyces destructans, associated with it. Further research interests include molecular phylogeny of watermolds, ecological immunology and pathogen resistance of amphibians in stressed Great Lakes ecosystems, molecular epidemiology of avian cholera in North America and other.
