Language
The conference will be in English, thus all contributions will
be in English.
Who can register?
In general, PhD students from different disciplines in the field
of wildlife research (biologists & veterinarians) with interest
in both wild and captive animals are very much welcome.
How to register?
Just write us a short e-mail indicating your intention to participate
in the 2nd PhD student symposium to PhDstudentsymp@izw-berlin.de.
To create an ambience suitable for intense and productive discussions
the number of participants is limited to 60. All applications will
be collected and reviewed by the symposium scientific committee.
Applicants will receive notification at the end of July. On site
registration at the symposium venue (IZW) in Berlin starts on 12th
of September at 7:30 am.
Abstract submission
All studies belonging to the fields of behaviour, ecology, physiology
and genetics are suited to be presented at the 2nd PhD student symposium.
If you want to contribute actively you should relate your presentation
in some respect to the overall topic “Biostatistical analysis –
the magic tool in wildlife biology and conservation medicine?”.
Abstracts should briefly outline the aim of the study and methods
applied, and present the main findings and principal conclusions.
Abstracts must be in English. Presentations with more than one author
should remember to indicate the name of the presenting author. Abstracts
should not exceed 250 words (excluding title, authors names, and
address). Please ensure that your abstract conforms to the following
guidelines.
Title: 11 pt bold Times New Roman Authors
names: capital 11 pt Times New Roman (not bold!); include full first
names in the order “First Name, Second Name, Last Name” Institution
name, address and e-mail address of corresponding author: normal
script 11 pt Times New Roman Text: normal script 11 pt Times
New Roman with 2 cm left margins and exact 12 pt line spacing; should
be continuous.
Abstracts should be submitted electronically as a word file (.doc
or .docx) to PhDstudentsymp@izw-berlin.de. Please remember to include
the correct e-mail address for correspondence concerning the submission.
Do not forget to mention your preference regarding the way of presenting
your study (oral or poster presentation).
(1) Oral contributions:
These will consist of a 10 minute presentation followed by 5
minutes discussion. Oral presentations will be allocated to the
symposium programme.
(2) Posters:
Posters should be presented in portrait format. They will be
fixed on poster boards and should not exceed 84 cm (width) x 130
cm (height). Please print the Posters on your own expenses, we are
not able to print them on the symposium expenses.
Fees of participation
Conference fee will be 15 € including coffee and tea breaks,
poster and pasta party (12.09.11) and a copy of the conference proceedings.
Accommodation can be organized to some extent to be private with
the IZW PhD students at no cost. Please apply informally when registering
for the 2nd PhD student symposium. Otherwise, there are several
cheap youth hostels (http://www.jugendherberge.de/en/) and other
hostels in Berlin. Keep in mind that Berlin is relatively large
and ways may become long. Therefore, make clear where the symposium
venue is situated before booking a hostel. Travel expenses, food
and accommodation are not covered by the conference fees.
