Dear Colleague

On behalf of the IUCN Sturgeon Specialist Group Subgroup Genetics I wish to extend a cordial invitation to you to participate in the 2nd Status Workshop on Identification of Acipenseriformes Species in Trade between 29th of September and 1st of October 2006.

The Symposium will be held in Berlin (Germany), at the Leibniz Institute for Zoo and Wildlife Research.

The Leibniz Institute for Zoo and Wildlife Research, Germany’s leading research institution for wildlife conservation, is closely situated to the city centre near the Tierpark. For those who wish to experience the vibrant cultural life of Berlin, there are frequent short connections to the city centre on the subway. Berlin offers world famous sites of contemporary and classical architecture, museums, art galleries, two zoos and many more.

My colleagues on the Workshop Organising Committee and I are looking forward to welcome you at the 2nd Workshop on the 29th of September 2006!

Dr. Arne Ludwig

Aims and Topics
Accurate species and population identification is the first step in every conservation program and is critical for the enforcement of commercial controls. For this reason the workshop will focus on an exchange of ideas among international specialists from many countries working with traditional, molecular and/or biochemical methods for species, population, and/or stock identification. We would like to present a platform for scientific talks and time for detailed discussions.

Main topics:
  >>    Species identification

  >>    Population identification

  >>    Source (wild vs. aquaculture) identification

  >>    Creation of a reference collection

The up-to-date list of talks will soon be on our website.
