Pathological anatomical reference collection

The pathological-anatomical reference collection (PARS) is a large and continuously growing collection of more than 53,000 specimens of paraffin-embedded tissues and histology slides from cases as far back as 1953 as well as wet formalin specimens of valuable cases over the last 30 years. The collection is complemented by a computer database that contains data of necropsy reports of all diagnosed cases from 1970 onwards. Retrospective studies on diseases and species were conducted (Müller et al. 2009). Researchers studying specific taxa or diseases have the possibility to receive reference material from this collection. In addition, freshly frozen tissue samples from all necropsied species are preserved in the genome tissue bank of the IZW.
