Safeguard genetic material, preferentially gametes or reproductive tissue of valuable individuals requires the concerted action of all involved parties. Besides biological challenges to successfully cryopreserve cells and tissue or to perform assisted reproductive techniques like artificial insemination or in vitro fertilization, manifold logistical problems must be solved. Within the workshop we would like to discuss advances which have been made in cryopreservation techniques or in their application for wildlife species. In addition, we aim on establishing a powerful European network of reproductive scientists and their related zoos and research institutions which enables an efficient application of currently available and feasible assisted reproduction methods for species conservation. Any ideas are welcome!
