Short curriculum vitae

I'm an ecologist interested in measuring and understanding the impacts of environmental change on natural systems, often with a focus on climate change. I work a lot in R to curate and analyse decadal scale animal datasets and understand how animal populations have changed over time. My previous work has included analyses of nesting behaviour in shorebirds and phenology of hole-nesting passerines. In addition, I am the maintainer of the R package `climwin`, used to understand climate change effects in longitudinal datasets.

My current work at the IZW, in collaboration with Alexandre Courtiol and Oliver Hoener, focuses on the 30+ year study of the spotted hyena (Crocuta crocuta) in Ngorongoro Crater, Tanzania. I am building a demographic model to understanding how the unique social system of spotted hyena may be affected by their environment. This model will also provide important conservation outcomes as it will allow us to predict the consequences of new management strategies on this enigmatic social carnivore.
