Short curriculum vitae

Mohammad Bashawat is a staff scientist in mammalian gamete biology, with a focus on
spermatogenesis and the cryopreservation of semen, testicular cells, and testicular tissue in
wildlife species. He applies 2D and 3D in vitro models and single-cell characterization techniques
to investigate fertility dynamics and support conservation-focused reproductive science.

Projects
  • New fluorescent cholesterol analogs for cell biological research: synthesis, characterization,
    and application.
  • Improvement of cryopreservation of dissociated testis cells and spermatozoa in the presence
    of kinase inhibitors.
  • Cryopreservation of male gametes – optimization using lipid additives
Research interests
  • Cryopreservation of sperm, testicular cells, and testicular tissue.
  • 3 D cell culture systems and in vitro models of spermatogenesis.
  • Bioimaging, image analysis, and automated image segmentation pipelines for reproductive
    and cellular biology.
  • Machine-learning strategies for the characterization of mammalian testicular cells.
