Dr. Nicole Münnich takes on the role of Managing Director of the Forschungsverbund Berlin e.V. (FVB) on December 1, 2021. She succeeds Dr. Falk Fabich, who was Acting Managing Director from April 2021 following the departure of long-time Managing Director Dr. Manuela Urban.

Nicole Münnich holds a doctorate in history, and is an experienced science manager. Before joining FVB, she headed the “Universities, Scientific Centers, Digitalization, and Artificial Intelligence” unit and was Deputy Head of the Science and Research Department at the Ministry of Science, Research and Culture of the Federal State of Brandenburg for six years. Prior to that, she worked more than five years in various positions at Humboldt-Universität zu Berlin. Her roles included Chief of Staff of the President’s Office, Advisor to the Vice President for Finance, Human Resources and Operations, and Head of the Excellence Initiative staff unit. As part of her doctorate at Leipzig University, she was a fellow at the Transatlantic Research Training Group Berlin / New York, which was funded by the Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft (DFG, German Research Foundation). For her PhD thesis, she received the Südosteuropa-Gesellschaft Award in 2012.

“We are delighted to have been able to recruit Dr. Nicole Münnich, an experienced science manager. With her expertise, we will continue to develop our Joint Administration in a forward-looking way,” stated Professor Thomas Schröder, Executive Board Spokesman of the Forschungsverbund Berlin.

Having appointed the new Managing Director, the Forschungsverbund bids farewell to Acting Managing Director Dr. Falk Fabich, who is retiring again, and expresses its sincere thanks. The law graduate with a doctorate in social sciences already performed this role at FVB from 1992 to 2012.
