Short curriculum vitae

Oliver Krone is a wildlife veterinarian specialised in parasitology and toxicology. He graduated at the Free University of Berlin and did his doctoral thesis on endoparasites in birds of prey in 1998. His work at the Leibniz Institute for Zoo and Wildlife Research (IZW) includes endoparasites of wild cats, wolves and raptors. Since 2000 he leads the long-time health monitoring project on the causes of death and diseases in large raptors such as white-tailed sea eagles. Toxicological aspects, especially lead intoxication of birds of prey and intentional poisoning are of growing importance. The heavy metals are analysed in the atomic absorption spectrometer (AAS) in the toxicological lab. Field projects include conflicts between wildlife and anthropogenic structures (wind power plants, railways, power lines), sustainable hunting (lead-free ammunition) and spacial movements of raptors in urban and rural environment using satellite telemetry. His over-all focus is conservation medicine with a focus on wildlife diseases and toxins in large predators. Hi supervised 8 doctoral, 5 diploma, 4 master and 4 bachelor theses.
