Kurzer Lebenslauf
Prof. Thomas Bernd Hildebrandt ist Leiter der Abteilung Reproduktionsmanagement am Leibniz-IZW und Univ.-Professor für Wildlife Reproduction Medicine an der Freien Universität Berlin, sowie Honorary Professorial Fellow Life Sciences an der University of Melboune, Australia. Von 1986 – 1992 studierte er Tiermedizin an der Humboldt-Universität zu Berlin, erlangte seinen Doktortitel mit summa cum laude an der Freien Universität Berlin und ist seit 1993 als Fachtierarzt zertifiziert. Auf seinem Spezialgebiet, der Reproduktionsbiologie, gehört er zu den Pionieren der assistierten Reproduktion großer Säugetiere, unter anderem bei Elefanten, Nashörnern, Großkatzen und Pandabären. Er ist in einer Vielzahl von Fachgesellschaften vertreten, Research Associate der Smithsonian Institution (National Zoological Park), Fellow der Zoological Society of San Diego Zoo, Scientific Associate der Taronga Conservation Society Australia, Conservation Fellow der Zoological Society London sowie Veterinary Advisor für die European Elephant Taxon Advisory Group und Senior Advisor of the Academic Committee in der Panda Base in Chengdu.
Prof. Hildebrandt ist ein leidenschaftlicher Befürworter der öffentlichen Wissenschaftskommunikation (Diplomate ECZM), spricht auf Wissenschaftstreffen auf der ganzen Welt und hat auch seine Arbeit bei der BBC vorgestellt und war in zahlreichen Beratungsgremien in Europa und der ganzen Welt tätig. Bis heute hat er über 250 wissenschaftliche Artikel veröffentlicht, 29 Buchkapitel verfasst, mehr als 220 Vorträge gehalten (davon 50 Plenarvorträge), zahlreiche Preise erhalten und verfügt über 7 Patente.
